General information

The Juneau 4th of July parade is dedicated to past director, Beverly M. Dorsher (1932-2003), in recognition of her commitment to community services.

The theme for the 2004 Parade is: "We Salute Freedom's Combat Heroes".

PARKING

One-way streets from 2 to 5 p.m. (4th Street - South; 2nd Street - North) No Parking on 3rd Street and St. Ann's Avenue, from Gastineau School to Summers Street. Parking at the Douglas Boat Harbor's new large parking lot. No open containers or glass containers are allowed on Douglas Streets.

GrayLine Tours Free Bus Service Every 20 minutes on July 4 only:

Douglas to Juneau, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Gastineau School

Juneau to Douglas, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Alaska State Museum

Juneau to Douglas, 2-6 p.m., Marine Park

FRIDAY, JULY 2

Noon: Senior Softball USA vs. 1st National Caps

1:30 p.m.: Senior Softball USA vs. Douglas Inn Ladies

11:59 p.m.: Only Fools Run At Midnight. Centennial Hall.

SAIL, JRC and The Alaska Club. Hosted by SAIL/ORCA.

SATURDAY, JULY 3

7 p.m.: Capital City Fire/Rescue softball game

Savikko Park Field No. 4. First prize $20; second

prize $15. Hosted by Juneau Fire District. Brad

Waldron, Juneau District Chief, Chair.

After the softball game: Watermelon Eating Contest

Sandy Beach. Sponsored by the Douglas 4th of July

Committee. Details: Anna Marg Rear.

11:59 p.m.: Fireworks display over Gastineau Channel.

SUNDAY, JULY 4

6:30 a.m.-9 a.m.: Assembly begins for Juneau parade

at 8th and Egan. Floats, 6:30. Vehicles, 8:00.

Marchers, 8:30. All others, 9:00.

11:00 a.m.: Juneau parade begins. Grand Marshalls:

Douglas T. Wahto, WWII Veteran & Jeremy E. Lemke,

Kosovo/Iraq Veteran.

1:30 p.m.: Douglas parade assembly time. Gastineau

school. No pre-registration or entry fee required.

2 p.m.: Douglas parade begins. Parade coordinators:

Molly McCormick and a representative of DVFD.

Children's parade prizes: All participants in the parade

will receive $1. Winners will receive $5.00.

11 a.m.: Registration begins for the annual

sandcastle challenge. Sandy Beach

3:30 p.m. (high tide permitting): Sandcastle awards.

Architects.

11 a.m.-4 p.m.: Deep Pit Beef Barbeque Dinner

Douglas Methodist Church. $10 adult, $7

children 12 and under. Sandwiches and chips $5.

Lion Jump: Field No. 3. Weather permitting.

$2 donation. Sponsored by the Fraternal Order

of Eagles.

The Whale. Field No. 3. Weather permitting. $1 donation

1:30-5 p.m.: Juneau Montessori School Kids Carnival.

Juneau to Douglas. Race starts at 3 p.m. at "Y"
