Canvas community tree project under way

Through the support of the Alaska Association of School Boards, the Canvas is hosting an opportunity for the community to create a sculptural art piece. This youth-led project, organized by 14 year-old Anna Thompson in coordination with Canvas staff, will incorporate recycled aluminum and glass.

Creation of the tree is ongoing. People of all ages are invited to build branches and leaves from 1-6 p.m. today, using glass engraving tools and sculptural wire. The event is free.

Those interested in making a home for one of the trees after completion (they would make elegant lobby decorations or house plant pieces of art) should contact Canvas staff at 586-1750.
