Southeast Road Runners - Concoco/Phillips Midsummer Night 10K and 1-Mile Runs: Meet at 5 p.m. at the False Outer Point Recreational Area for a 6 p.m. race start. Courses are 10 kilometers and one mile out and back on the North Douglas Highway. Pre-registration will take place at either JRC, the Nugget Alaskan Outfitter or at the Foggy Mountain Shope. Race day registration starts at 5 p.m. There will be gifts for the first 70 entrants. Beach Volleyball Tournament - The Juneau Volleyball Association hosts a tournament at Sandy Beach. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the tournament starts at 11 a.m. The cost is $7 to JSA members, $10 to non-members. There will be men's, women's, mixed and 4x4 Coed divisions. Southeast Road Runners - Tom Casey Memorial Mount Juneau Ridge Run: Meet at 7 a.m. at the Perseverance Trailhead parking lot at the end of Basin Road for a 7:30 a.m. race start. Course is approximately 15 miles and is extremely difficult. Due to the strenuous climb (roughly 3,000 vertical feet gain), distance and hazards, all participants should be able to complete a half-marathon in two hours or less. This adventure run follows Perseverance Trail to the Mount Juneau Trail to the peak of Mount Juneau, then follows the ridgeline to Granite Creek and back to the Perseverance Trail. All participants must run with a buddy and must bring proper clothing (synthetic, not cotton), a hat, gloves, light windbreaker, fluids and snacks. If the weather is poor, the race/run will be postponed to a better date for safety reasons. LIFE On The Move Flag Football - The Juneau School District will be hosting three separate flag football camps. Taking place on July 11-14, the final of the three camps runs from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at Adair Kennedy field. The July camp is for ages 9-11. LIFE On The Move Volleyball - Registration is still being accepted for the July 25th-28th camp for middle school students and the Aug. 1-2 camp for high school students. The middle school camp will take place from 1-4:30 p.m. each day at the DZ gym. The high school camp will take place from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. each day at the DZ gym. Classic Women's Outdoor Soccer - Registration for women's classic outdoor soccer has begun and will be ongoing throughout June. Registration forms may be picked up and dropped off at the Zach Gordon Youth Center or online at http://www.juneausoccer.com. The season begins the first week of July and is open to women who are new to the game or experienced players who which to play in a non-competitive league. Teams will play 14 games and usually play once a week. Games are usually played on Sundays and Mondays with a few midweek exceptions. Info: Kurt West, 364-2503.
Carlos Boozer Basketball Camp registration - The Carlos Boozer Basketball Camp will take place at Juneau-Douglas High School from July 18-22. The camp features both a boys and a girls session and will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day. It is available for boys and girls ages 7-15 and costs $265 for the weeklong camp. Juneau Women's Golf League - The Juneau Women's Golf League is looking for experience and new players interested in playing golf. The league meets every Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Mendenhall Golf Course. There will be a shotgun start. Golf club rentals are available and cost is $9.45 per round, plus tax. Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - Climbing wall hours are 5-7 p.m. on Mondays, and 3:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee. Evening masters swimming program - The Augustus Brown pool hosts a twice-weekly evening masters swimming program. The program will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is designed to promote and improve the physical and mental well-being of adults age 19-older. Treadwell Arena schedule - The Treadwell Arena will be running four half-day (8 a.m.-noon), week-long summer camps for youth ages 6-12. Available camps: Camp 3: Survivor Week (July 11-15). Juneau Archery Club youth shooting - Archery shooting is held on Friday nights, with sessions at 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Space is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Basketball/volleyball court rentals available - The Juneau Community Schools program has basketball/volleyball court rental times available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Recreation Hikes Hotline. Always remember to bring plenty of food and water, wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms are allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
