Bring back Alaska Marine Highway System headquarters

Posted: Wednesday, July 04, 2007

When Sarah Palin became governor, many people were relieved. There was a hope, as of yet unfulfilled, that she would undo much of the damage left behind.

Sound off on the important issues at

Case in point: Despite a Juneau Assembly resolution to keep the Alaska Marine Highway System headquarters here in Juneau and no real justification for the move, the headquarters was moved to Ketchikan. Former Gov. Frank Murkowski said he was not anti-Juneau and was not promoting "capital creep." However, in his next move, he had Juneau's name taken off all the state ferries. How much did it cost the state of Alaska to do this? Juneau is still the state capital, so why was Juneau's name taken off all the state ferries?

Will Palin return the Alaska Marine Highway System headquarters to Juneau, and will she put Juneau's name back on all the state ferries?
