R. Scott Withers

Former Juneau resident R. Scott Withers, 78, died July 1, 2002, in Port Salerno, Fla.

He was born in the Bronx, N.Y. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army. After graduating from Syracuse University as an entomologist, he was employed by the state of Alaska. Upon retirement, he moved from Alaska to Stuart, Fla., where he had resided for the past 19 years.

He is survived by his wife Sandra Withers of Stuart, Fla.; son Nowlin Scott Withers of Anchorage; daughter Treacy Harris of Auburn, Wash.; stepdaughter Michelle Drucker Horning of Falmouth, Me; and six grandchildren.

The family said those who wish to may make a contribution to a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Aycock Funeral home in Stuart, Fla.
