Flaming toilets cause $30K in damage

JUNEAU - Police are seeking tips in an arson investigation of three port-a-potty fires that caused an estimated $30,000 in damage Friday morning.

Capital City Fire and Rescue dealt with fires in two locations:

• At 12:22 a.m. Friday, motorists reported a burning port-a-potty in a parking lot by Auke Lake.

• At 12:58 a.m. Friday, a loud boom was reported at Dimond Park. Firefighters discovered and extinguished two fires on the ball fields affecting two port-a-potties and an electrical shack.

Electricity in the area had to be cut for firefighters to deal with the structure without risking electrocution.

People with tips on suspicious vehicles or people in the area at the time should call the Juneau Police Department at 586-0600. Tips leading to an arrest may also be eligible for a cash reward through the Juneau Crime Line at 586-4243.
