Bear activity closes Kenai river area

Posted: Monday, July 05, 2010

KENAI - Kenai National Wildlife Refuge officials say bear activity has prompted the closure of a forested area between the Russian River Ferry entrance, the Kenai River and the Sterling Highway.

Officials say an accumulation of salmon carcasses along the banks of the rivers has attracted at least five bears to the area.

Officials are urging fishermen to take remove the entire fish or throwing the remains into deep flowing waters to reduce the presence of bears.
