Juneau resident Russell Raymond See Jr. died July 1, 2007, with his family by his side. He was 47.

Born Jan. 28, 1960, to Dorothy and Russell See Sr., in Juneau, See was raised in Juneau and Angoon. He attended Juneau schools and received his general equivalency diploma in 2005.

He worked as a fisherman, cook and longshoreman. He would fish anywhere from Bering Sea to Bellingham, Wash., his family said. Anybody he worked for knew he was a great cook and would have him cook any chance they got him around, family said. His first fishing job was fishing with his father on the Nellie B and Wrangell.

He also worked on the St. Peter, Talia, Mary D and Gerilyn. Drummer was the last boat he worked on. His family said when See worked, he put his whole heart into it, and when there was any kind of community gathering, he helped out in any way he could. He had a big heart and was kind to everyone.

He was a Deisheetan Raven-Beaver of End of the Trail House in Angoon. He was a member of Alaska Native Brotherhood Camp 7 of Angoon and Camp 70 of Glacier Valley, a member of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes and a shareholder of Sealaska and Goldbelt.

He was preceded in death by his fathers, Russell See Sr., and Thomas Lee Gregory; grandparents, Annie and Raymond Esmino, Johanna and Jake Cropley, Bessie Weokoluk and Frank See Sr.; and brothers, John Gregory and Allen See.

He is survived by his wife, Elena Gail See, of Angoon; sons, Travis See and his wife, Roseann Williams, Matthew See, and Nathan See, all of Angoon, and Stephan See, of Seattle; daughters, Stephanie See, of Seattle, and Laura See-Paul, of Angoon; granddaughter, Brenda Williams-See, of Angoon; mother, Dorothy Gregory; brothers, Russell Gary See III and his wife, Cynthia, Kevin See and his wife, Tina, and Donald Gregory and his wife, Sueann; and sisters, Yanakeen Janice See and her husband, Jose Rodriguez, and Sara Gregory and her husband, Rick Vavalis, all of Juneau.

Memorial services will be at 7 tonight at Glacier Valley Church of God, 8497 Thunder Mountain Road, in Juneau. Refreshments will be served downstairs following the services.

Pallbearers are Kenny Johnson, Burnheart Johnson, Albin Fredrickson, Danny Fredrickson, Rick Paulo, Donnie Wells, Rocky Estrada, David Skrzynski, Greg Bowen, Harvey Jacobs and Lee Kerne.
