ANCHORAGE - A 42-year-old man is dead after being struck by a train as he was trying to move a dog from the track.

Alaska Railroad spokesman Tim Thompson said the dog, a Labrador retriever, also died in the accident Saturday about 16 miles south of Talkeetna.

Thompson said the train crew blew the horn and launched emergency braking efforts but the train was unable to stop.

The man, whose name was not released, was thrown off the track.
