SEATTLE - Challenges to the assessed values of property in the Seattle area have nearly tripled in the past year, The Seattle Times reported Sunday.
Challenges in King and Snohomish counties went from fewer than 5,500 in 2007 to more than 15,500 in 2008.
The total number of appeals last year jumped from 3,767 to 13,156 in King County and rose from 1,688 to 2,347 in Snohomish County.
The newspaper found assessments were reduced, lowering tax bills, on about half the challenges in King County and on about a third in Snohomish County.
