Military flare found on beach in North Douglas

JUNEAU - Juneau Police say an incendiary device found on a North Douglas beach turned out to be a military flare that washed ashore.

The flare was found Sunday evening.

A local resident called police to report a metal canister was on the beach at the tide line.

Sgt. Paul Hatch said the caller reported the device had hazard markings and a message to contact police if found.

He said the flare will be destroyed.
