ANCHORAGE - Builders of a gay pride float that burned in a suspicious fire built another float just in time to participate in Anchorage's Independence Day parade.
The Imperial Court of All Alaska, a group supporting the gay community, built its 25-foot float with community support.
The new float, called "Phoenix Rising," was among more than 60 floats taking part in the downtown parade Sunday, two days after the original was destroyed in the Friday morning fire.
Authorities say the blaze may have been arson, and the float's builders fear it may be a hate crime.
At Sunday's parade, "Phoenix Rising" won the Grand Champion trophy.
