In season: Freshwater steelhead trout (peaks April-June), cutthroat trout (peaks May-June), salt and freshwater king salmon (peaks May-July), halibut and rockfish (peaks June-Sept.), sockeye, pink and chum salmon (runs June to Sept., peaks in July), coho salmon (June-Nov.), Dolly Varden (June-Aug.), bear viewing at Pack Creek (June-Sept., peaks July and Aug.), and freshwater northern pike (peaks July-Aug.), black bear (until June 30), freshwater steelhead trout (peaks April-June), cutthroat trout (peaks May-June), freshwater smelt (peaks in May), salt and freshwater king salmon (peaks May-July).

July 13: Southeast Road Runners Mount Juneau Ridge Run, conditions permitting. July 14 is alternate date. Starts at 7:30 a.m. at Perseverance Trailhead parking lot at the end of Basin Road. Approximately 15 miles and 3,000 vertical feet. For details, contact Dave Pusich, 780-4525. Route and safety issues will be discussed before the run starts.

July 13: Juneau Freewheelers Bicycle Club End of the Road Race from the Shrine of St. Therese to Echo Cove and back, 10 a.m. at the shrine.

July 13: Rain, children's program with naturalist Tara Novakowski, 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center covered viewing area. Call 789-6640 for details.

July 20: Salmon, children's program with naturalist Naomi Seidel, 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center covered viewing area. Call 789-6640 for details.

July 20: Juneau Alpine Club East Glacier Trail hike, 1 p.m., 3.1 miles. Call Steve Kocsis, 790-3175, for details. Meet at far parking lot.

July 20: Ben Blackgoat Memorial Perseverance Trail Run, 9 a.m., 2-, 4-, or 7-mile run starting at Gold Creek Bridge on Basin Road. Contact Stan or Marge Ridgeway, 789-1937 or ridgeway@gci.net.

Ongoing: Guided nature hike on the Trail of Time, Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area, 2 p.m. daily. Meet at the flagpoles. Call 789-6640 for details.,

Ongoing: Trap shooting at the Juneau Gun Club, on Montana Creek Road, 5:30-9 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sundays. Call 789-9844 for details.

Ongoing: Guided hikes through Juneau Parks and Recreation Department on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Call 586-0428 for details.

Ongoing: The Mendenhall and Auke Village campgrounds are open for the summer. Fee is $8 a night. Call 586-8800 for details.
