Saturday-Today, July 6-7

• Juneau Yacht Club Sailing Squadron - Rum Cup Challenge races, Round 2: Two-day event features a run from Mayflower Island (Douglas Harbor) to Point Hilda on Saturday and a run from Point Young to Sheep Creek on Sunday. There will be a beach bonfire Saturday night at the anchorage due west of Admiralty Cove in Young's Bay. Racing starts at 10 a.m. each day and is open to any single-hulled sailboat at least 21 feet long. A handicapping system is used so liveaboards can compete with racing sailboats. Sailboats must complete at least four of the eight legs of the series in order to be ranked in the final point standings. There is a mandatory pre-race captain's meeting at 8 a.m. at the Aurora Harbormaster's office. • Gastineau Channel Little League - Minor baseball (ages 9-10) district tournament: Petersburg vs. Ketchikan, 3 p.m., and Wrangell vs. Juneau East, 6 p.m. Opening ceremonies are 5:30 p.m. All games at Miller Field near Glacier Valley Elementary School.

Tuesday, July 9

• Gastineau Channel Little League - Minor baseball (ages 9-10) district tournament: Juneau West vs. Petersburg, 3 p.m., and Ketchikan vs. Juneau East, 6 p.m. All games at Miller Field near Glacier Valley Elementary School.

MEETINGS / CLINICS / ANNOUNCEMENTS

• Juneau Youth Football League - The JYFL seeks someone to fill the vacant cheerleading chair on its board of directors. The chair oversees all cheerleading actvities in the JYFL prgram. No cheerleading experience is required, just a desire to work with a valuable youth program. Info: JYFL president Karen Lawfer, 364-3642.

OPEN GYMS / SCRIMMAGES / ONGOING

• Youth open gym - Meet from 8-11 p.m. on Saturdays (July 13, 20 and 27; and Aug. 3, 10, 17 and 24) at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gym. Friday youth open gyms at Floyd Dryden Middle School are on hiatus until the school year starts again in the fall. Youth open gyms are free for students in grades 5-12. • Juneau Freewheelers Bicycle Club - Weekly women's training rides take place on Wednesdays, with alternating weeks riding from downtown and the Valley.
