Masks instill hatred at the parade

Letter to the editor

It saddens me that as my child participated in the Freedom of Speech parade she witnessed the assaults by grown men and women pelting other parade participants with handfuls of candy. I had no anger toward the people in the masks because I understood that they were not the real Bush, Cheney, Rice and Rumsfeld; they were only pretending. Of course the hatred and rage exacted on them by these cowards from behind was real.

They do not understand that just because someone does not choose to act exactly as you want them to is no excuse for assaulting them. If they did, they would never have supported this war in the first place.

What is far more tragic is that they took these actions in front of their own children as well, thus instilling in them more jingoistic hatred for their fellow beings, even their own countrymen and women, for having the courage to express their own opinions peacefully.
