Juneau East topped Juneau West, 13-5, in the opening round of the Alaska Little League District 2 9-10 Year Old Baseball All Star tournament Wednesday in Petersburg.

East catcher Kyle Gould had three hits and drove in four runs to pace his team.

Christian Gould, Kyle's twin brother, pitched a complete game for the win.

"Juneau East played good defense, especially in the outfield," East manager Jon Heifetz said. "Kohl Jaeger had a bid defensive catch in center field and Tod Baseden had a good catch in right field."

East shortstop Marc Heifetz scored four runs and stole home in the win with the manager noted that second baseman Zach Miller and third baseman Tanner Petrie made solid plays in the field.

For the West squad, Phillip Fenumiai cracked a pair of base hits.

"Many of the kids on both sides have been playing with or against each other since farm league over the last three or four years," Heifetz said. "There was a lot of comraderie and sportsmanship exhibited by both teams."

East takes on Prince of Wales while West faces Sitka today in Petersburg.

There are six teams competing in District 2 - East, West, Petersburg, Ketchikan, Sitka and Prince of Wales.
