JUNEAU - Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell announced Monday that Mike Nizich, currently Gov. Sarah Palin's chief of staff, will remain chief of staff when Parnell takes the oath of office as governor on July 26.

Nizich, 56, came to Juneau in 1971 with the U.S. Coast Guard, and has worked for the state since 1976. He worked for the previous four administrations as Director of Administrative Services and was appointed deputy chief of staff by former Gov. Frank Murkowski and chief of staff by Palin.

"Mike Nizich has integrity and has faithfully and competently served seven prior governors," Parnell said. "I am pleased he will stay on to move Alaska forward."

Parnell's comment came in a press release issued by the governor's office Monday.

"Sean Parnell is a strong, thoughtful leader. I have had an excellent working relationship with him as lieutenant governor and that will continue into the future," Nizich said in the release.
