ANCHORAGE - A man struck and killed by a train north of Wasilla on Independence Day has been identified as 42-year-old Brett Miller of Anchorage.

Railroad spokesman Tim Thompson says Miller was hit while trying to save his Labrador retriever, which had run onto the tracks. Neither Miller nor the dog survived.

The Anchorage Daily News reports that the fatality was the railroad's first in four years.
