• Southeast Road Runners Club - Midsummer Night 10K and 1-mile Runs: Meet at 5:30 p.m. at the False Outer Point Recreation Area in North Douglas for a 6 p.m. race start. Friday, July 11

• Juneau Freewheelers Bicycle Club - Informal time trial: Meet at 6 p.m. at the parking lot on the Douglas side of the Douglas Bridge for a 6:30 p.m. race start. This is a 24-mile race against the clock along the North Douglas Highway to beyond False Outer Point and back, with riders leaving the starting line in 30-second intervals. Saturday, July 12

• Southeast Road Runners Club - Tom Casey Memorial Mount Juneau Ridge Run: Meet at 7 a.m. at the Perserverance Trailhead (at the end of Basin Road) for a 7:30 a.m. race start. This is a hard-core mountain run with a course of roughly 15 miles that features a climb of Mount Juneau (about 3,000 vertical feet), a run along the rolling ridgeline and back down the mountain via Granite Creek and Perseverance Trail. Due to the strenuous nature of this race, all runners must be able to complete a half-marathon race (13.1 miles) in two hours or better in order to compete. Participants must carry proper clothing (no cotton), a hat, gloves, light windbreaker, fluids and snacks. The run will be postponed to Sunday, July 13, if weather and/or snow conditions are judged to be poor. All runners must run with a partner (runners will be matched up before the race if they don't have one). Route and safety issues will be discussed before the race. • Juneau Freewheelers Bicycle Club - Dimond Park Mountain Long Course Bike Race: Meet at 9 a.m. at the Gold Rush bleachers of Dimond Park for a 9:30 a.m. precourse ride and 10 a.m. race start. The course will follow parts of the Dimond Park short course, as well as sections of the Gute Loop that follow Montana Creek and the Mendenhall River. • Gastineau Channel Little League baseball - Junior League Division (Age 13-14) Alaska District 2 tournament: Round-robin pool play: Sitka vs. Ketchikan, 11 a.m.; Prince of Wales vs. Haines, 2:30 p.m.; Juneau (GCLL) vs. Petersburg-Wrangell, 6:30 p.m.; all games at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park baseball diamond.

• Juneau Yacht Club-Sail Squadron - Rum Cup Challenge, Round Two: The third and fourth legs of this eight-leg event take place on Saturday and Sunday, July 12-13, with this weekend's trip going from Mayflower Island (by Douglas Harbor) to Admiralty Cove (on Admiralty Island) on Saturday and returning on Sunday, a distance of about 19 miles each way. This event is open to all single-hulled sailboats at least 20 feet long, including liveaboards, and a handicapping system is used to equalize the field. • Juneau Alpine Club - Mount Stroller White climb, this is a two-day high-difficulty challenge that requires an ice ax, crampons, climbing harness and camping gear. • Gastineau Channel Little League baseball - Junior League Division (Age 13-14) Alaska District 2 tournament: Round-robin pool play: Haines vs. Sitka, 11 a.m.; Ketchikan vs. Petersburg-Wrangell, 2:30 p.m.; Juneau (GCLL) vs. Prince of Wales, 6:30 p.m.; all games at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park baseball diamond.

• Juneau Disc Golf Association - Inaugural Open Disc Golf Tournament: Meet at 9 a.m. at the Dimond Park Disc Golf Course with a 10:15 a.m. tee-off. This is a flying disc (Frisbee) golf tournament where pro division players can win cash and amateurs can win prizes. Pros and advanced amateurs will play two rounds each, while other amateur divisions will be for one round. The pro division entry fee is $20, adult amateur entry fee is $10 and junior (age 15-younger) amateur division entry fee is $6. Info: Juneau Disc Golf Association, 463-3353.

• Juneau Tennis Association garage sale fund-raiser - The Juneau Tennis Association will be holding a fund raising garage sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, at 8705 N. • Juneau Youth Football League cheerleading conditioning sessions - The JYFL cheerleading program is holding conditioning sessions for all girls interested in becoming varsity or junior varsity high school cheerleaders. • Treadwell Arena summer programs - During July, the arena is available for drop-in basketball from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Mondays and from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesdays; drop-in in-line skating from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 4-7 p.m. on Mondays, and from 3-5 p.m. on Fridays; drop-in tennis from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesdays; and drop-in in-line hockey from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Rental times also are available from 7:30-10 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, from 6-10 p.m. on Friday, and from noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. In-line skating and basketball fees are $4 for adults, $2 for youth, $1.90 for seniors. Hockey and tennis passes are $5 for adults, $4 for youth and $3 for seniors. Court rentals for tennis and basketball are $20 per hour. Facility rental is $75 per hour or $500 for seven or more hours. • Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Recreation Hikes Hotline. Always remember to bring plenty of food and water, wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms are allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
