Juneau Jumpers make their mark at Nationals

JUNEAU - The Juneau Jumpers jump rope team competed at the USA Jump Rope 2007 National Championship at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., on June 22-24.
All of the team members placed in the top 10.
There were 26 states represented and 66 teams from throughout the nation with more than 900 athletes competing.
Grayson Carlile, 15, placed third in triple unders, seventh in one-minute speed, ninth in three-minute speed and made it to the Grand Master Tournament in one-minute speed on the MGM stage, which is filmed by ESPN.
Isabel Bush, 17, took fourth in three-minute speed, eighth in triple unders and 10th in one-minute speed.
Talitha Wilson, 16, placed 10th in triple unders while Laura Knapp, 21, took ninth in three-minute speed.
Tera Ross, 18, and Bush teamed up in pairs freestyle to finish eighth while the double dutch pairs freestyle team of Carlile, Wilson, Bush and Ross finished sixth.
The double dutch single freestyle team of Wilson, Ross and Bush took 10th.
Bursell, Rivera qualify for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii
JUNEAU - Juneau's John Bursell and Tracy Rivera both qualified for the Ironman World Championships on June 28 after posting top-10 times at Ironman Coeur d'Alene in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
The triathlon world championships will take place Oct. 13 in Kona, Hawaii.
Bursell, 43, placed eighth while Rivera, 40, took ninth in the Coeur d'Alene's 40-45-year -old division. Both athletes finished with identical times of 10 hours, 20 minutes and 13 seconds in the event.
The Ironman triathlon consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bicycle race and a 26.2-mile run.
Happy 4th of July for Juneau's Steve Shin
JUNEAU - Steve Shin recorded a hole-in-one on July 4 at the Mendenhall Golf Course, according to the course's Koggie File.
Shin aced the 111-yard first hole using a pitching wedge. It was Shin's third hole-in-one at Mendenhall Golf Course.
Shin joins Ed Birchell and Stick Melton in recording hole-in-ones this year.
