City imposes open burn ban

Posted: Wednesday, July 08, 2009

JUNEAU - Capital City Fire and Rescue issued a ban Tuesday on all open burning throughout the borough.

Due to extreme heat conditions and low relative humidity, a red flag warning was issued from the Alaska Region Fire Weather Center. A red flag warning means that severe fire weather conditions are occurring or imminent for the Juneau area.

The open burning ban will be in effect until at least Thursday, depending on conditions. An open burn ban means that no fires are allowed to occur outside.

For more information, call the city's main office at 586-5322.
