Sundays at Savikko, a Douglas version of Concerts in the Park, will open Sunday, July 11, at the new Pioneer Pavilion in Savikko Park by Sandy Beach, and will be held every Sunday, 4:30-6 p.m. through Aug. 15.
This Sunday's program will feature all Douglas resident performers. Put together by Ed Schoenfeld, it will feature Songs About Douglas from Ed and Maggie Schoenfeld, the Douglas Community United Methodist Church Choir, The Beat Bros. (Bob Banghart and Jack Fontenella) and Teri Tibbett with Alex and Haley Nelson. Lou Ann Gagne will serve as the MC for the afternoon. Mayor Bruce Botelho and Director of Parks and Recreation, Marc Matsil, will help kick off the new series, which the Council hopes will become a tradition for Juneau families just as the long-running Concerts in the Park have been.
Audience members are invited to come sit on the lawn, bring lawn chairs and enjoy the shows. The Island Pub will offer Sunday at Savikko specials each Sunday following the performances throughout the summer. In the event of rain, concerts will be held in the Douglas Methodist Church.
