Fire damages valley home

A fire of unknown cause damaged a Mendenhall Valley house Saturday night. No one was home at the time, and no one was injured fighting the blaze, officials from Capital City Fire and Rescue said.

Damage from flames largely was confined to a front bedroom in the one-story ranch house at 3078 Mountainwood Circle, but the rest of the house was damaged extensively by heat and smoke, said Capt. Dave Boddy of the Glacier Station.

Fire Marshal Randy Waters said this morning he is investigating the cause. The house is owned by David Saldivar, he said.

A neighbor reported the fire by calling 911 at 9:34 p.m. When firefighters arrived, flames were showing from the front of the house, Boddy said. A crew entered the house and put out the fire. It was under control within 25 minutes, he said.
