ANCHORAGE - Military officials say a general with a background in special operations is taking over as the top Army officer in Alaska.
Officials say Brig. Gen. Raymond P. Palumbo will be taking over in a ceremony at Fort Richardson on Monday.
He is replacing Maj. Gen. William J. Troy, who has been nominated to the rank of lieutenant general and to the position of director of the Army staff at the Pentagon.
Palumbo, who is getting his first Alaska assignment, is coming from Fort Bragg, N.C., where he has served as the deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army Special Operations Command.
