KODIAK - Ouzinkie's new airport is open for business.
A Servant Air Piper PA-32 Cherokee touched down Saturday morning during a flight from Kodiak to Ouzinkie to become the first plane to land at the airport.
On board for the 12-mile flight were Dan Clarion, Ouzinkie mayor and harbormaster, and Servant Air pilot and co-owner Wes Osowski.
The new runway is 3,300 feet long, fulfilling a new community airport safety regulation.
That means it's long enough to accommodate a Coast Guard C-130, which could be helpful if the community of about 200 full-time residents ever needs to evacuate.
