Sitka to celebrate ninth of July fireworks

SITKA - Sitka is hoping three time's a charm for its Independence Day fireworks display.

The Fourth of July fireworks, postponed because of poor weather, have been rescheduled for the ninth of July, according to the sponsor, Petro Marine.

The show was originally planned for July 3. Jerry Jacobs, manager of Petro Marine's Sitka plant, says rain and low clouds pushed the show date to July 4.

When the weather didn't improve, the decision was made to have the show just before midnight Friday.

Jacobs says the show takes six to eight hours to set up and the heavy and persistent rain that fell July 3 and 4 would have resulted in fuses getting wet, turning the fireworks into duds.
