Anchorage police chase ends in death

ANCHORAGE - A man died while trying to elude police in a chase through downtown Anchorage.

Police said the man, Robert Kyle Wells, died after his truck landed upside down in the Anchorage jail parking lot. The 24-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene while still pinned in the crushed vehicle.

The chase started when Wells allegedly side-swiped the cruiser of an Anchorage policeman who was parked on Fourth Avenue.

Police said Wells was on probation and had a revoked driver's license.
