Police could have been more helpful with the bear necessities

Wednesday I saw a bear wandering around the neighborhood; it wasn't causing problems or getting into anything, just checking out the neighborhood. Being worried about children and what could happen, I called the police to let them know. The policeman I talked to said, "We aren't into tracking bears, thanks Ma'am."

I then called the Gastineau Humane Society, not knowing who else to call. They gave me the phone number for the state troopers. I called the state troopers and explained to them about the bear and that I just thought someone should know before something did happen. The state troopers were very helpful; they said they would get Fish and Game out there to check it out and track the bear, and whatever else was necessary.

Now I understand that the police department doesn't track bears, but they could have tried to be helpful, told me who I should contact, maybe even the phone number, something, but I didn't even get the offer. I was very disappointed in our police department; I feel as though I was let down.
