In season: Salt and freshwater king salmon (peaks May-July), halibut and rockfish (peaks June-Sept.), sockeye, pink and chum salmon (runs June to Sept., peaks in July), coho salmon (June-Nov.), Dolly Varden (June-Aug.), bear viewing at Pack Creek (June-Sept., peaks July and Aug.), and freshwater Northern Pike (peaks July-Aug.).

July 14: The Saturday hike usually meets at 9:30 a.m. No dogs or firearms please. Call the hike hotline at 586-0428.

July 14: Kids Day program on insects at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center covered viewing area from 11 a.m. to noon. Children under 7 should bring an adult. For more call 789-6640.

July 14: Windfall Lake Trail Challenge Run starting at 9 a.m. at the Windfall Lake trailhead. Registration is $5 in advance or $8 at the race. Call 780-4215.

July 14: Juneau Archery Club general meeting and salmon derby, 3-D shoot and barbecue at Montana Creek Range.

July 14: NRA Smallbore rifle silhouette at the Hank Harmon Rifle Range, 9 a.m. registration, shoot at 10am.

July 15: NRA Sporting rifle, at the Hank Harmon Rifle Range, 9 a.m. registration, shoot at 10 a.m.

July 15: Public trap shoot at 10 a.m. every Sunday at the Juneau Gun Club. Call 789-9844.

July 16-19: Mendenhall Watershed Partnership Workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the third floor conference room of the Juneau Empire building. Call 586-6853.

July 16-20: Level 2 Intermediate Dinghy Sailing (ages 12-18).

July 16-20 and July 30-Aug. 3: Outdoor survival day camp for youths 6 to 12 at the Zach Gordon Youth Center.

July 16-19: Cruise and fishing derby, Snettisham Trout Creek.

July 18: Wednesday adult hike usually starting at 9 a.m. No dogs or firearms please. Call the hike hotline at 586-0428.
