• Gastineau Channel Little League - District II Majors All-Star Baseball Tournament: Today's round-robin games are Prince of Wales vs. Sitka at noon, Ketchikan vs. Petersburg at 3 p.m. and Juneau West vs. Juneau East at 6 p.m., with all games at Miller Field behind Glacier Valley School. The round-robin portion of the tournament continues through July 16, with semifinals on July 17 and the championship game on July 18.

• Thunder Mountain Sports Camps - Registration is underway for Thunder Mountain youth soccer and baseball camps, which will feature local coaches along with high school and college coaches from the Lower 48. Three camps remain: regular soccer, July 12-16, $100; advanced soccer, July 19-23, $100; and baseball, July 19-23, $75. Info: Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation, 586-5226.

• Juneau Rowing Club open house - This event takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, at the Juneau Rowing Club floats in Aurora Harbor. Club members will be available to teach novice rowers the basics of the sport and a few sculls will be available for people wanting to give the sport a try. • JRC-The Alaska Club sports camps - Beginning the first Monday of summer break, JRC-The Alaska Club will offer a series of nine week-long sports camps for kids ages 5-12. The camps offer instruction and play for racquetball, basketball, wallyball, soccer, badminton, volleyball, tennis and more. Dates are July 12-16, July 19-23, July 26-30, Aug. 9-13 and Aug. 16-20. Camps run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each camp costs $140, plus tax for members, $160, plus tax for non-members. Before- and after-care available for an additional fee. • Juneau Parks and Rec men's and women's volleyball registration - Team manager packets are available at the Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation office, located in Room 218 of the municipal building downtown. Team registration takes place at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5, in the Juneau Assembly Chambers. Late registration takes place during business hours on Friday, Aug. 6, at the Parks and Rec office. • International Bowhunter Education Program - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game will conduct this course that is required of all hunters who is to participate in "Archery only" hunts this year. All bow hunters must complete an ADF&G-approved bow hunter education course, such as this one, before they are allowed to hunt. This course takes place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, at 2760 Sherwood Lane, Suite 2C. All participants should bring their own bow, arrows, and target or filled points for the shooting portion of the course. The course includes classroom training, a written test, and bow and arrow shooting with target and filled points. • Juneau Disc Golf Association registration - The Juneau Disc Golf Association's season has started. The new course is at Aant'iyeik Park, located above Glacier Highway between the Auke Rec turnoff and Lena Loop Road. • Youth open gyms - Meet from 8-11 p.m. on Saturdays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gym. Youth open gyms are free for students in grades 5-12. Info: Community schools director Joyce Kitka, 463-1700, Ext. 327.

• Adult volleyball/basketball open gyms - Meet from 7-9 p.m. on Fridays and from 7-9 p.m. on Sundays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gym. Cost is $4 and open gym is limited to adults (age 18-older) only. Info: Community Schools, 463-1700, Ext. 325.

• Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - New climbing wall hours are 5-7 p.m. on Mondays, and 3:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee. • Treadwell Arena summer schedule - Events through July 16 include court rentals from noon to 3:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday, open in-line skating at 4-6 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, drop-in basketball at 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, drop-in roller hockey for ages 8-16 at 6-8 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday nights, drop-in roller hockey for ages 17-older at 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday nights, and open in-line skating and roller rink nights from 6-8 p.m. on Fridays. On Saturday and Sunday, the rink is open for rentals only from noon to 6 p.m. Helmets, hockey gloves, shin pads and in-line skates are mandatory for in-line hockey games, and full face masks and mouth guards are required for players age 18-younger. • Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center guided hikes - The Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center offers twice-daily, one-hour guided hikes on the Trail of Time. The free hikes, led by a naturalist from the visitor center, meet at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the flagpoles in the first parking lot. Info: Wayne Ward, 789-6640.

• Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Recreation Hikes Hotline. Always remember to bring plenty of food and water, wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms are allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
