State sticks with consultants on energy tax

JUNEAU - The state plans to hire Gaffney, Cline and Associates to help study potential changes to Alaska's system of taxing oil and gas production.

The choice would keep in place the consulting firm that's been doing this type of work for the Department of Revenue.

Lacy Wilcox, a special assistant to Commissioner Pat Galvin, said a notice of intent to award the contract has gone out. The contract is worth up to $2 million.

Wilcox said there was one other applicant, Econ ONE Research Inc.

The department issued a solicitation last month, with Galvin saying the firm's contract was expiring and the new contract essentially sought a continuation of work that's been done.
