District 2 (Southeast Alaska) Junior Little League baseball tournament: Opening ceremonies, 6 p.m.; Petersburg vs. Wrangell, 3 p.m.; Juneau (Gastineau Channel Little League) vs. Ketchikan, 7 p.m. Other teams include Sitka and Prince of Wales. Juneau Freewheelers' Association Paceline Practice Ride: Training ride designed to teach potential racers safety practices in the paceline. Meet 5:30 p.m. at University of Alaska Southeast's Bill Ray Center, behind gas station near Douglas Bridge. Info: Doug Woodby, 463-3095.

Saturday July 15

District 2 (Southeast Alaska) Junior Little League baseball tournament: Losers' bracket games at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. All games at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park baseball field.

Cope Park Mountain Bike Race: Race starts 8 a.m. at Cope Park (race must be completed by 10 a.m.). Five and 10 laps of course. Info: Tony Jacobsen, 790-3443.

Spaulding Meadows (With a View of Windfall Lake) Cross-Country Trail Challenge Run: Registration opens 8:30 a.m., race starts 9 a.m. at University of Alaska Southeast Auke Bay Campus' Mourant Building. Course is about 13-15 miles with elevation gain of 1,700 feet. Race follows Back Loop Road and Glacier Highway to the head of Spaulding Meadows Trail, crosses Spaulding Meadows to the top of Montana Creek Trail, then follows Montana Creek Trail to the finish line at the archery range on Montana Creek Road. Finish line closes at 12:30 p.m. Buddy system used for race, with time of second runner used for each mandatory pairing. Course features boardwalks, gravel, muskeg swamp and bears (noise makers encouraged, no firearms allowed). Pre-registration $5 (closes 4:30 p.m. Friday) at Foggy Mountain Shop and both Juneau Racquet Club locations. Day-of-race registration $8. Info: Steve Foley, 586-1836, or Paul Dick, 586-3469.

Juneau Parks and Recreation Saturday Hike: Follows Thunder Mountain Heintzleman Ridge trail, a difficult 5-mile round trip with elevation gain of 2,800 feet. Experienced hikers only meet at Mile 7 Glacier Highway Trailhead, with slow pace group at 8 a.m. and fast group at 9:30 a.m. Info: JPR, 586-5226.

Introduction to shotgun clinic for women National Rifle Association-certified instructor Tammy Kramer will introduce women to the shotgun and firearms safety. Clinic costs $10 (lunch provided) and shotguns are provided. The clinic is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at the Juneau Gun Club on Montana Creek Road. Space is limited. Final registration for women's classic outdoor soccer Teams are currently being formed for women's classic outdoor soccer. Pick up registration form at Zach Gordon Youth Center and mail it in as soon as possible. Classic soccer is recreational, competitive outdoor soccer for women of all ages. Info: 364-2503.

Thunder Mountain Sports Camps Soccer and baseball camps with local coaches, and high school and collegiate coaches from the lower 48. Four camps offered: ``Wee'' Soccer Camp, July 17-21 ($65); Regular Soccer Camp, July 31-Aug. 4 ($90); Advanced Soccer Camp, July 24-28 ($90); and Baseball Camp, July 24-28 ($70).
