American Red Cross wilderness first aid

Learn about wilderness first aid at a class offered by the American Red Cross from 6 to 10 p.m., Aug. 3 and 4, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Aug. 6 at 3200 Hospital Drive, Suite 203.

The class is open to the public. No prerequisites required.

SE Alaska master gardeners' garden tour

The Southeast Alaska Master Gardeners' self-guided garden tour is 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 16, and Sunday, July 17. Featured gardens are in the Twin Lakes, Lemon Creek and North Douglas neighborhoods.

Tickets for the two-day event are $10 and may be purchased at Hearthside Books or Cooperative Extension Service. Purchased tickets should be exchanged for garden location maps from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Bill Ray Center or the Extension Service office.

Pioneers of Alaska to hold annual picnic

The Pioneers of Alaska, Igloo #6, will have their annual picnic noon to 4 p.m., July 16, at Sandy Beach. Visiting members of other igloos are welcome.

The group is dedicated to improving and preserving the history and literature of Alaska. Residents of Alaska for over thirty years are eligible to join.
