In response to Erik Lie-Nielsen's blathering rehash of typical liberal Bush bashing ("Our war president never served," July 9), I'd like to correct a few of the flat-out lies that he spouted off.
Sound off on the important issues at
With regard to President Bush's duty while in the National Guard, if you'd like to see the truth instead of the same old lies the libs want you to see, visit http://www.hillnews.com/york/090904.aspx and read the "rest of the story."
I also noticed how Mr. Nielsen conveniently forgot to mention in his story that we are now finding WMDs and documentation proving that Saddam did have ties to al-Qaida.
Then there's the whole issue of the president's approval ratings. They are back on the rise and up to 41 percent. Did you forget, sir, that the entire Congress's ratings are far below that, regardless of political affiliation? Speaking of ratings, have you noticed that ever since Bush's ratings started going back up, that the liberal media hasn't been pasting them all over the front page of the paper anymore? Amazing how that works, isn't it?
The fact is that our "war president" took our country into a very necessary war to rid Iraq and the world of a brutal dictator who, even before becoming the self proclaimed president of Iraq, murdered scores of people simply because they disagreed with his particular view of Islam. The fact is that Saddam was linked to al-Qaida, as new documents are beginning to show. The fact is that were it not for our president and his courage to protect American citizens from attacks here at home, many more lives would have been taken by now due to terrorist attacks in America.
Mr. Nielsen also makes reference to Bush's "flag-waving, patriotic, neo-con supporters" and that the "vast majority by far avoided serving their country militarily at all." That entire statement defies any logic or basis of fact at all. The overwhelming majority of the people serving in Iraq right now are supporters of President Bush and of their mission.
We should all be thanking God every day that we have a president with courage and integrity, who knows what needs to be done, then does it. Even when people like Murtha, Kerry and Kennedy want to throw in the towel and let the terrorists win, President Bush doesn't back down.
God bless our troops, and God bless America.
