BP Alaska looking at gas pipeline options

Posted: Tuesday, July 13, 2010

JUNEAU - A BP Alaska spokesman says the company remains interested in getting natural gas from Alaska's North Slope to market and is evaluating two proposed pipeline projects.

The feasibility of each project is being tested by the market, with TransCanada and Denali seeking shipping commitments for the competing projects.

TransCanada is working with Exxon Mobil Corp. to advance its project; Denali is a joint effort of ConocoPhillips and BP America.

BP Alaska is considered a separate entity. Spokesman Steve Rinehart says the goal is getting gas to market in the most efficient, financially smart way.

A press report raised questions about BP's future in Alaska, saying BP PLC was in talks to possibly sell assets, including a stake in the Prudhoe Bay oil field. BP spokesmen declined to comment on "speculation."
