Workers start to clean up and demolish the remains of the Juneau Cold Storage in May 1987. A fire destroyed the historic building, which was built in 1927, on May 24, 1987. It survived a major mudslide in the 1930s and a fire in 1956, but was a total loss after the fire in 1987. It was no longer in operation at the time of its destruction. There were no injuries in the fire. The cruise ship Fairsea is moored in the background.
