FAIRBANKS - A 28-year-old man drowned recently after jumping or falling from a skiff on the Koyukuk River.

Alaska State Troopers said David Dayton's body was found near the village of Koyukuk, about 100 yards from where he was last seen Sunday.

Trooper Robert Nunley said Dayton left the skiff after it had broken down. Another person in the party of four also left the boat and made it to shore.

Witnesses said they were all drinking, Nunley said.

Hours later the group realized that Dayton was missing and called authorities.

Troopers said an autopsy is pending.

Koyukuk is a village of 89 people about 300 miles west of Fairbanks.
