ANCHORAGE - The Alaska Legislature will host fellow lawmakers from 13 Western states for a conference touching on such issues as transportation, international trade, education and American Indian issues.

The five-day conference begins Wednesday in Anchorage.

The regional meeting for the bipartisan Council of State Governments - West will also feature such guests as four-time Iditarod winner Martin Buser and presidential historian and Pulitzer Prize winner Doris Kearns Goodwin.

Many of Alaska's lawmakers will be taking time off from a special session on several energy development and costs issues to host the conference.
