New firm will manage college properties

SITKA - A new real estate firm will manage the Sheldon Jackson College campus and other land holdings in Sitka.

College President David Dobler said PTP Management of Anchorage will begin managing and marketing the closed college's property today.

The college owns about 260 acres of land in Sitka, including its historic 40-acre downtown campus.

The former management company had been working with the Sitka Planning Department to begin subdividing the property.

Dobler said he stills believes that the school's debt - estimated at more than $10 million - can be resolved through land sales and that the campus can be protected.

Board members have said they want a buyer for the main campus by month's end, or it could be divided and sold.
