The Juneau Junior All-Stars, age 13-14, traveled to Ketchikan for the Southeast championship on Monday. Juneau's first game is against Sitka today, followed by Ketchikan on Wednesday.
The two top teams from the round-robin tournament will advance to a best two-out-of-three championship team. The winner will then advance to the state championship in Anchorage.
"The team is very young, with eight of the 13 players being only 13 years old, but the team has worked hard practicing every day for the past two weeks and is ready for the competition," said Sheldon Winters, Juneau's manager.
In the Alaska District 2 Little League Minors Division tournament, Juneau will play Haines at 6 p.m. Thursday and Sitka will play Haines at 3 p.m. Friday at Miller Field 2, behind Glacier Valley Elementary School.
"We haven't determined the game times on Saturday and Sunday, but we are planning on playing double-headers," said Jeff Duvernay, Gastineau Channel Little League president.
