ANCHORAGE - An Anchorage firefighter has died from an accidental shooting.

Police say 27-year-old Elliott Taylor and a friend had just returned from shooting and were cleaning their weapons Tuesday evening when the friend's gun fired through his hand and hit Taylor in the lower abdomen.

Neighbor Kurt Spencer told KTUU-TV he tried to provide first aid until a fire department crew arrived.

Taylor was a three-year veteran of the Anchorage Fire Department. Deputy Fire Chief Michelle Weston says the department is mourning the loss.
