Authorities say 56-year-old Charles Collins of Eagle River is the likely driver of the vehicle, which dove 200 feet down a steep embankment near mile 114 of the highway. Troopers were notified early Tuesday and say no one was found there.

The highway has been closed between Eagle and Chicken since Monday after a weekend storm triggered rock slides and washed out portions of the road.

Meadow Bailey with the state Department of Transportation says most of the motorists stranded on the highway been able to leave, thanks to temporary fixes to the road.

She says that stretch of the highway will be closed indefinitely while permanent repairs are made.
