Why does the Asian-American population lag behind when it comes to representing companies in the higher business echelons? This is a question Jane Hyun attempts to answer in her book, "Breaking the Bamboo Ceiling" (HarperBusiness, $24.95). According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Asian-American employees are projected to increase their share in the workforce from 5 percent to 11 percent by 2050. However, the 2004 Committee of the 100 Corporate Board "Report Card" showed that Asian-Americans make up only 1 percent of corporate board seats.
