KODIAK - The Kodiak Area Native Association will use $850,000 in grant money from the Rasmuson Foundation to help build a new office on Near Island in Kodiak.

Mike Pfeffer, KANA's facilities director, said the new space will incorporate several community development programs under one roof.

KANA has four offices in Kodiak. The new building will allow KANA to consolidate much of its operation and expand services.

Koniag, the regional Native Corporation for the Kodiak Island area, will share in construction costs.

Groundwork is expected to start this fall, with actual construction beginning next year. Occupancy is expected in the spring of 2010.
