ANCHORAGE - The city of Palmer reported that the number of building permits issued so far this year is at a 10-year low.
Officials there blame a slowing national economy for the drop.
Fifty permits had been issued to builders through June, compared to a high of 80 for the same period in 2003.
Sandra Garley is director of community development.
She said bigger businesses are showing an interest moving into the area, but are waiting for better financial conditions.
