Fern Adeline McCormick
Juneau resident Fern Adeline McCormick died July 8, 2000, in Juneau.
She was born May 13, 1910, in Hardy, Neb. She received a bachelor's degree in fine arts in the 1940s and moved to Durango, Colo., to teach art in the schools. She later received a master's degree in fine arts from Denver University.
She lived in Durango for many years, and moved to Juneau three years ago.
She was a promoter of the arts, and had an art studio in her home, where she taught for many years. She also taught art as a volunteer to seniors and in school programs. She was a member of the Durango Art Guild.
She wrote poetry and a manual for art teachers. She enjoyed travel, reading and playing bridge. She also created a corporation to support medical research into alcoholism.
She was preceded in death by her husband William and sister Alyce Mae. She is survived by her daughter Kathleen Hargraves and son-in-law Jerry Fields of Juneau, her son Leo McCormick of Newcomb, N.M., and grandchildren Coe Hargraves of Boulder, Colo., and Amber Hargraves of Denver, Colo., two nieces and three nephews.
Services will be held in Juneau at a date to be announced. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3200 Hospital Dr. Juneau, 99801.
