JUNEAU - The Juneau Arts and Humanities Council's long-running Concerts in the Park series will be renamed Friday, July 19, to honor the memory of board of trustees member Brenda Willis Bruce.
Bruce, who died May 5 in Juneau, was a member of the board for six years. In that time, she served as an active volunteer at events, helped with membership and fund-raising drives, and attended hours of planning meetings to help solidify JAHC's schedule, said Sybil Davis, executive director.
"She really did an awful lot as far as volunteering her spare time to help the city get better," Davis said.
The concert series will be renamed the Brenda Willis Bruce Friday Concerts in Marine Park, with the dedication taking place at Friday's concert.
"It's not any big, huge service," Davis said. "We're simply making a statement that we are dedicating these park concerts in memory of her and all the community service that she did and the contributions she made to the capital city."
The concert begins at 7 p.m. Performers are Jason Messing, with original acoustic rock and folk; Jane Roodenberg; and Greg Maloney, performing humorous and sensitive acoustic songs. John DeCherney will MC with members of the JAHC Board.
