Rosita Worl, first, president of the Sealaska Heritage Institute, holds ahistoric carved Haida feast ladle Thursday that is one of the 300 cultural objects at a new research center located on the third floor of Sealaska Plaza.

The institute built the research center to accommodate its growingcollections and to better serve the general public and researchersstudying Southeast Alaska Native cultures. Second, a detail of a historic carved Haida feast ladle shows the figure of a killer whale.
