KENAI - An Alaska State Trooper spokeswoman says a person has been killed near Soldotna.

Troopers spokeswoman Beth Ipsen stopped short of calling the Friday afternoon death a homicide but told the Peninsula Clarion that officers were conducting a search after a reported shooting.

Troopers closed off a wooded area in west Soldotna and conducted a ground and helicopter search.

Soldotna is on the Kenai Peninsula about 70 miles southwest of Anchorage.
