A walk on the wild side by Juneau's pitchers staked Ketchikan to a nine-run lead after two innings and Ketchikan went on to claim a 16-6 victory in a losers' bracket game at the Southeast Alaska District 2 Senior Division (age 15-16) Little League Baseball Tournament in Sitka.
The game, which was called in the sixth inning because of the 10-run rule, eliminated Juneau from the double-elimination tournament. Juneau took third place out of four teams in the tourney.
Ketchikan plays Sitka in today's 6 p.m. championship game, but needs to win that game and Tuesday's 6 p.m. if-necessary game to claim the title. Sitka just needs to win once to win the championship.
Billy Fisher led Juneau at the plate by going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Fisher just missed hitting a grand slam in the fourth inning when the ball went foul, but he followed that near miss with a two-run double to make the score 11-4 Ketchikan.
Andrew Hall went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and two runs scored, while Pedro Mojica went 2-for-4 with two runs for Juneau (Mojica was 9-for-12 for the tournament). Trevor Kennon and Gary Stevens scored Juneau's other runs.
Kenny Pearson and Chris Loughman scored four runs each to lead Ketchikan, which lost 4-0 to Sitka on Friday.
